Charcoal Snowmen

My 3rd grade students recently tried charcoal for the first time, and they did a great job! We made snowmen with shading. Snowmen are wonderful for teaching students how to create light and shadows in art; they're so fun that the kids stay motivated!

    1. I'm glad to hear that! I was surprised how much my students love charcoal. I don't enjoy working in charcoal because it's so messy, but the kids think it's fun when their fingers turn black :).

  2. Is that just white chalk, or is that white charcoal as well? I would love to try this. Our building switched to white boards ages ago and I have a ton of white chalk everyone gave me when they got their dry erase markers. This would be a great project to use some of that chalk up! I'm so glad I found your blog from a link on Art with Mr. E. I've found a lot of great projects I want to try!
