1st Grade Castles

My 1st grade students are also designing castles, but with a little more detail in the landscape. We talked about having a moat around the castle, and if there would be a drawbridge. The students also got creative with adding knights or princesses. The 1st graders did watercolor resist. We used crayons to draw everything, and then watercolors to paint in large areas. I told the students that it was ok to color in small areas, as well as parts that needed to be a specific color that wasn't available in watercolors. Also, if the students wanted the water to be a different kind of blue than the sky, they chose to color one part and paint the other part. Overall, I am quite happy with the results! Watercolor resist can be so beautiful.
